VTC and Taxi Insurance: what are the solutions following the suspension of Wakam contracts?

VTC and Taxi Insurance: what solutions after the suspension of Wakam contracts?
Since late September 2026, Wakam has temporarily been unable to underwrite new contracts or renew existing ones. A decision that directly impacts certain VTC and Taxi insurance offers distributed by brokers and wholesalers. Is your contract coming to an end or are you looking for new insurance? Solutions remain available.

The VTC and Taxi insurance market is currently undergoing a significant shift.

Since late September 2026, the insurer Wakam has temporarily been unable to underwrite new contracts or renew existing ones.

This situation has specific consequences for VTC and Taxi drivers, as Wakam acted as the insurer behind certain offers distributed by specialized brokers and wholesale brokers.

Some solutions previously available to insure a VTC or Taxi vehicle are therefore temporarily suspended.

However, this does not mean that it has become impossible to insure a VTC or a Taxi.

KT VTC&TAXI continues to have solutions available to review new applications as well as to replace contracts that are coming to an end.

What is currently happening with Wakam?

On September 25, 2026, the French Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority (ACPR) took a precautionary and temporary measure concerning Wakam.

This decision temporarily prohibits the insurer from:

  • underwriting new contracts;
  • renewing existing contracts.

This is not a bankruptcy of Wakam.

Current contracts continue to be managed and remain valid until their expiration under the conditions provided for in the contract.

The problem is therefore mainly situated at the moment of a new subscription or the next renewal.

Why are VTC and Taxi drivers particularly affected?

Wakam was present in several specialized automotive segments, particularly through products distributed by intermediaries.

This is particularly important in the VTC and Taxi sector.

In insurance, the name of the company from which you took out your policy is not necessarily that of the insurer that actually carries your contract.

You may, for example, sign up with:

  • a broker;
  • a wholesale broker;
  • a specialized platform.

But behind this offer is a risk carrier, i.e., the insurance company that actually guarantees the contract.

Wakam played this role for certain VTC and Taxi offers on the market.

When the same insurer carries several programs distributed by different intermediaries, a restriction affecting this insurer can therefore simultaneously affect several distribution channels.

Solly Azar has already suspended new Taxi-VTC subscriptions

The consequences are already visible.

Solly Azar announced on October 1, 2026, that several of its products were temporarily unavailable for new subscriptions.

Among them is explicitly its Taxi-VTC offer.

The wholesale broker explains that this suspension is linked to the decision of its partner insurer Wakam to suspend the marketing of its offers.

Existing contracts, on the other hand, remain valid until their anniversary date.

For the affected drivers, the main question therefore becomes:

which insurance should I take out at the next renewal?

How do I know if my VTC or Taxi insurance is carried by Wakam?

Check your contractual documents.

The name of your broker or manager is not enough.

Look in particular for the mentions:

  • "insurer" (assureur);
  • "insurance organization" (organisme assureur);
  • "guarantees provided by" (garanties assurées par);
  • "risk carrier" (porteur de risque).

If Wakam, Wakam SA or possibly its former name La Parisienne Assurances appears in your contractual documentation, your contract may be affected by the current situation.

In case of doubt, ask your broker directly for confirmation.

Is your Wakam VTC or Taxi contract still valid?

Yes, if it is currently in effect.

The decision taken against Wakam does not immediately cancel existing contracts.

Your contract remains valid until its expiration under the planned conditions.

You therefore continue to benefit from the subscribed guarantees during this period.

If you have a claim, you must also continue to follow the claim procedure provided for in your contract normally.

What happens at your next renewal?

This is the point to which drivers must now pay particular attention.

As long as the ban remains in effect, Wakam cannot renew the affected contracts.

Your intermediary will therefore potentially have to find another insurer capable of taking over your risk.

If no alternative solution is proposed, you will have to look for a new contract before the end of your current coverage.

For a professional driver, it is essential to anticipate this process.

A VTC or a Taxi can obviously not continue its professional activity without suitable car insurance.

Do not wait until the day before your expiration

If your VTC or Taxi insurance is carried by Wakam, we recommend that you plan ahead.

You can start looking for a solution before your contract's expiration date.

This allows in particular to:

  • study your profile;
  • collect the necessary documents;
  • compare guarantees;
  • check deductibles;
  • avoid an interruption of coverage.

The goal is to be able to start the new contract immediately following the old one, without a period during which your professional vehicle would be without insurance.

What documents should I prepare to change VTC or Taxi insurance?

To speed up the review of your file, prepare in particular the documents relating to your activity, your vehicle, and your history.

Depending on your situation, you may be asked for:

  • your claims history report (relevé d'information) for the last 36 months;
  • your driver's license;
  • your VTC or Taxi professional card;
  • the vehicle's registration document (carte grise) or the purchase order;
  • your KBIS (business registration certificate);
  • your contact details;
  • information regarding where the vehicle is parked.

Additional documents may be requested depending on the vehicle, your activity, and the insurer requested.

Are you currently looking for new VTC insurance?

The suspension of certain offers does not only concern renewals.

It also affects drivers wishing to insure a new VTC vehicle.

You are concerned, for example, if:

  • you are starting your VTC activity;
  • you are buying a new car;
  • you are changing vehicles;
  • you are leaving your current insurer;
  • your old contract has been terminated;
  • you need to quickly insure a vehicle intended for your activity.

Some solutions previously accessible may currently no longer accept new subscriptions.

But VTC solutions remain available on the market.

Are you currently looking for new Taxi insurance?

The issue is similar for Taxi drivers.

If your old solution no longer accepts new subscriptions or if your contract needs to be replaced at its expiration, it is important to study the available alternatives quickly.

The choice of contract must take into account your professional activity and the intensive use of your vehicle.

KT VTC&TAXI still has VTC and Taxi solutions

Despite the current difficulties encountered by some market offers, KT VTC&TAXI continues to be able to study VTC and Taxi files.

Our activity in this market does not only depend on the currently suspended programs.

We still have solutions to study:

  • new VTC subscriptions;
  • new Taxi subscriptions;
  • vehicle changes;
  • contracts coming to an end soon;
  • the replacement of certain contracts that cannot be renewed;
  • certain profiles with specific history, subject to acceptance.

Each file obviously remains subject to the conditions and acceptance criteria of the insurer concerned.

Third-party, extended third-party, or comprehensive: what solutions?

Changing insurers does not necessarily mean reducing your level of protection.

Depending on your profile and the accessible solutions, different packages can be studied:

Third-party insurance

It mainly includes mandatory motor liability insurance.

It may be suitable for certain older or low-value vehicles.

Extended third-party insurance

It generally complements the liability insurance with various guarantees such as theft, fire, or glass breakage, depending on the proposed contract.

Comprehensive insurance

It offers more significant protection for the vehicle and can, in particular, cover certain damages suffered by your own car in the event of an at-fault accident, under the conditions provided for in the contract.

For a VTC or Taxi driver using their vehicle daily as a work tool, the choice of the package should be studied carefully.

Be careful with coverage when changing insurers

If you have to replace your current contract, do not just compare the monthly payments.

Two insurance policies with similar rates may offer very different levels of protection.

Check in particular:

  • the amount of deductibles;
  • the driver's personal injury coverage;
  • 0 km assistance;
  • glass breakage;
  • theft and fire;
  • all-accident damage;
  • indemnification conditions;
  • any guarantees related to the immobilization of the vehicle.

For a professional whose income depends directly on their vehicle, a few differences in coverage can have significant consequences after a claim.

Is your vehicle financed via LOA or LLD (leasing)?

Be particularly vigilant.

A recent VTC vehicle financed via LOA or LLD generally represents a significant financial commitment.

Even if the vehicle becomes unusable after a serious accident, the obligations related to the financing do not necessarily disappear.

A comprehensive policy and, when relevant and available, a financial loss guarantee (GAP insurance) may therefore deserve special attention.

Is your current contract coming to an end soon?

If your VTC or Taxi insurance is affected by the Wakam situation, the most important thing is to anticipate.

You do not need to wait until your contract reaches its last day to start the process.

Prepare your file and request a study early enough to know the available solutions.
